“All-Ceramic” technology: Omega’s latest Seamaster series – Moon Phase watch

BLS’s new product represents the first time the “all-ceramic” manufacturing process has been used in a watch. It’s part of Omega’s latest Seamaster series: the Moon Phase watch. Ceramics are inorganic non-metallic materials created through high-temperature firing. This material is ideal for producing high-density watch components with exceptional mechanical properties. Ceramics are highly favored by consumers when choosing watches, thanks to their attractive variety of colors and unique properties. Ceramics are twice as lightweight as stainless steel, and they’re also durable, resistant to scratches, chemically inert, hypoallergenic, and non-magnetic. The watch’s case measures 44.25 millimeters. It features a blackened movement, and laser ablation technology is used to create a realistic depiction of the lunar surface on the movement’s bridges. This design pays tribute to the Seamaster’s significant role in the Apollo 8 mission.Through the openwork dial made of black anodized aluminum, one can clearly see the near-side of the Moon as seen from Earth. The back of the dial displays the “far-side of the Moon,” which has only been seen by astronauts. The watch comes with a black microporous rubber strap, with a yellow rubber lining in the middle, adding to its eye-catching design. The entire watch is made of black ceramic. The central second hand is painted yellow, while the bezel features laser-engraved, bright-white enamel markings for measuring speed. The sub-second hand is made of five-layer titanium metal and is shaped like the Saturn V rocket. This 3D design was created using laser machining techniques, with various color effects achieved through white paint application, laser ablation, and laser blackening processes.
